Is My
Marriage Worth Saving?: How to Find an
Answer

Time and time again, it has been said that marriage is not
easy. However, as newlyweds it is often hard to visualize the
trials that a married couple can encounter further on down the
track. In fact, at some point in time, most married people have
even questioned, "Is my marriage worth saving?" They wonder if
it is worth the effort it is taking to keep it alive.
Those that answer no to the question often end their union
in a divorce. Yet, many more work through their hard times and
end with a stronger bond than ever before. So how it is that
you really answer, "Is my marriage is worth saving?" How do you
know if it is time to go your separate ways?
There are several different factors that can make you
question your mate and your love. Arguing can be one of them.
The stress of constant bickering and fighting over petty
matters can be enough to make anyone want out of a marriage. In
addition, being married to a mate that takes you for granted,
does not appreciate you as a person, and does more taking than
giving can ruin a marriage very quickly. All of these lead to
wondering, "Is my marriage worth saving?"

If you are questioning whether you really want a divorce,
then there is hope that you still want to make your marriage
work.
The first step in determining "is my marriage worth saving" is
by decising if you truly want it to work. If you are not
willing to put the past aside and pour on-going effort into
your relationship, then you are fighting a losing battle. One
way to find out how you really feel about being without your
spouse is to picture him or her with someone else. Could you
really accept seeing your mate with another person?
Next, you must figure out if your mate is willing to do what
it takes to meet you in the middle. Without both of you being
committed to making your marriage better, it is extremely hard
to save your relationship.
Are you and your partner ready to be open and honest about
your feelings? Will you both agree to see a marriage counselor
if needed? Can the two of you put your past feelings aside,
forgive one another, and start with a new beginning? If you can
honestly answer yes to these questions, then there is no doubt
that your marriage is worth saving.
However, if you are the only person that will put forth
effort or if you are compromising yourself and your values to
make your marriage work, then you may want to reconsider
keeping your relationship alive. If your body or self-esteem is
being abused, then your spouse is not worthy of being married
to you.
Remember, a successful marriage is where both partners are
happy, self satisfied, and cherished by one another. However,
the sacred bond that two people create when they unite as
husband and wife is definitely not something to take lightly.
Therefore, serious thought should be given to any decision that
you make.
